September 3rd: Part 3 (9
Synopsis
While Gon and Killua thank him for exposing the broker's scheme, Zepile says that he only wants twenty percent in return when they sell the wooden vault. Gon is fine with the exchange, but Killua is adamantly against it since they need every Jenny they can get. He instead offers to treat him to lunch, and Zepile quickly agrees, saying that he knows a good place and leaving the two boys confused by how easily he changed his mind.
Zepile enjoying his free lunch
As Zepile devours several dishes of food and asks the restaurant waitress for more, Gon feels bad and says that they should pay him a commission, with Killua telling him to drop it already. Zepile assures him that the food is enough, asking the waitress for yet another dish. He then asks the two how they went about appraising the three items, and after Killua reveals that they didn't, Zepile is in disbelief and wonders how they chose those three from among all the items. Gon wonders if it's okay to reveal the truth, and Killua thinks that it's better than paying him.
After they tell him the truth, Zepile is left confused by the terms Nen and aura. Killua explains that they received training to see it, and Zepile realizes that it makes sense why they chose the vault over some of the other valuable items such as trading cards and collectibles. He asks them why they're trying to make so much money, but Killua first says that they want to bid on a certain item in an auction, asking him how much they can make from the vault's contents. Zepile replies that he can't be entirely sure without knowing exactly what's inside, but tells them that it should sell for at least 100 million. He then asks them what item they want, and Killua replies that it's a video game called Greed Island.
Zepile explaining why he used to make counterfeit vases
Zepile says that it will be difficult because of the expensive price, and Killua asks him how much the weird vase sitting beside him would make. Zepile reveals that it's just a worthless piece of junk, asking them why they want the game and remembering that it cost 6 billion previously. Gon replies that he's hoping to find clues in the game that help him locate his father. Killua asks Zepile why he chose the vase over the vault, and Zepile reveals that he's actually the one who made it. Gon apologizes for calling it weird, and Zepile laughs it off, adding that it's a counterfeit and that he’s vowed to buy them all back after he used to make them when he was barely making enough money to eat.
Killua asks Zepile how much a real vase would make, but Zepile says that it's his turn for a question, asking Gon what his father does. Gon replies that he's a professional Hunter, and Killua quickly repeats his question, with Zepile saying 40,000-50,000 since rookie counterfeiters wouldn't get high-end jobs. Zepile mentions that he has met a few Hunters involved in antiques and trade, describing them as crazy and wondering how a kid would be able to track one down. Gon stuns Zepile by revealing that he's also a professional Hunter.
Saying that it will be his last question, Zepile asks if the two need help with anything and offers to help with appraising items. Gon asks in reply why he wants to help them, and Zepile says that he first saw them as potential clients but was also flattered that they bid on the junk vase he made. Gon is adamant that it isn't junk since it's filled with his Nen, revealing that while anyone can produce aura, it's difficult to control. He explains that using Ten to surround something with aura takes concentration and training, which Zepile was able to do without even knowing about Nen.
Gon, Killua, and Zepile seeing the contents of the wooden vault
Zepile smiles and says that he can judge both buyers and sellers very well after being in the business for so long, telling the two that he wants to work with them. Gon and Killua agree and say that they can decide on what to pay him after they see his skills in action. Back in Zepile's apartment, he holds the vault between his feet and uses a hammer and chisel to carefully crack open the seal, revealing the numerous pieces of treasure inside. As Gon and Killua immediately notice the aura, Zepile inspects the pieces and says that they are genuine, guessing that it will make at least 300 million. However, he explains that dealers markets are cash only so an item so expensive won’t get any bids if it's entered at the last minute. Killua asks him what they should do, and Zepile replies that they should take it to an auction preview, which is a place where items that miss the catalog deadline are showcased. He warns them that the item may be undervalued if the dealers pull any tricks, leaving Gon and Killua confused.
At the Preview Market, the gallery director named Taloon welcomes them and examines the vault's contents, praising each piece and saying that they are in pristine condition. Zepile tells him that they want to preview it for the auction tomorrow, and Taloon offers to pay 250 million for it, but Zepile quickly declines. Taloon isn't surprised since it will easily make more at the auction. He leads the three to the preview floor where a conveyor belt moves items along as people appraise them. Zepile notices three men enter the room as the vault appears on the conveyor. Everyone is impressed and believes that it's completely genuine. However, one of the men who recently entered says that while the wooden vault could be real, its contents might not be. As Gon and Killua look surprised, Zepile realizes that a new scheme has started.
