Synopsis

At the Hotel Beitacle, as Neon sleeps after her outburst. The maids pick up the mess, Dalzollene (with several bumps on his head from trying to calm Neon down) calls her father and assures him that they will win the items that she wants from the auction. However, he adds that she wanted to win them herself and that she will be disappointed once she learns that she missed it. Her father says that he will change his plans and head over to the hotel, telling Dalzollene to make sure that they acquire the mummy so Neon will be in a good mood.

Dalzollene then calls Kurapika and asks how things look at the front entrance. Melody looks through binoculars from a rooftop and says that nothing has changed. Kurapika tells Dalzollene that everything is clear and that they will call if anything happens. Melody says that no one can get within 550 yards of the Cemetery Building besides the Mafia's own security. She then asks Kurapika what the Scarlet Eyes mean to him, pointing out that his heartbeat sounded ferocious when he saw the image of them.

Kurapika reveals that he is a member of the Kurta Clan and that he wears black contacts to avoid detection since their eyes are usually brown and turn red when they become upset. He says that he is searching for the rest of his brethren's eyes and wants to return them to their graves, asking Melody if she plans to tell Dalzollene about him. Melody says that she doesn't want to die, recognizing that Kurapika is willing to sacrifice himself for his goals. Kurapika asks Melody why she applied for the job and says that her eyes will tell him if she's lying.

Melody reveals that she is a professional Hunter as well, specifically a Music Hunter who is looking for a certain piece of music. The two make eye contact, and Kurapika says that she left out the important details, causing Melody to laugh. She then reveals that she is looking for the Sonata of Darkness, a piece supposedly composed by Satan which curses anyone who performs or listens to it.

Melody revealing to Kurapika the curse's effect on her arm

As Kurapika wonders if it's just an urban legend, Melody rolls up her sleeve and reveals the condition of her right arm. She quickly pulls it back down and says that hearing just one movement (the flute solo) was enough to harm her, asking Kurapika if he wants to see an old picture of her. She also reveals that her friend who played the solo died and that his body was completely affected, adding that his friend had only taught him on the condition that he never play it. She reveals that the two of them were drunk at the time and that she received her ability in exchange, but admits that she would give everything back if she could be the way she was again. She says that she plans to find the piece of music and destroy it so that no one has to suffer as she and her friend have, adding that she chose the job because she hoped one devil would know another.

After the two end their conversation since the auction is about to start, Ivlenkov, Baise, and Tocino make their way through the metal detectors inside (where two members of the Phantom Troupe are working in disguise). Baise wonders why the capos aren't using proxies since it's just an auction, and Tocino points out that they earn points for their family, with the syndicate receiving 5% of the proceeds as a commission. He adds that some families get into bidding wars and end up bankrupt trying to show off their financial clout.

As everyone takes their seats in the crowded auditorium, two more members of the Troupe walk out onto the stage. The shorter one welcomes them and says that there is no need for formal greetings since they will all die now. The larger one behind him readies his Nen, and the tips of his fingers suddenly separate and hang down from small chains. As the bullets from his Double Machine Gun ability easily rip through the attendees, Tocino uses his Eleven Black Children ability to protect himself as well as Ivlenkov and Baise. However, the bullets easily destroy the puppets and then fatally wound Tocino, who realizes that the man is using Nen bullets and is also an Emitter.

The massacre continues, and Ivlenkov and Baise quickly dash away from the hail of bullets, but Shizuku waits for them outside the auditorium, crushing Ivlenkov's head into the floor with an odd-looking vacuum cleaner. Baise tries to run away, but Shizuku quickly leaps toward her and kills her in the same fashion. The three Troupe members meet up in the auditorium filled with dozens of dead Mafia members, and Shizuku uses her vacuum (called Blinky) to suck up all the corpses, blood, personal belongings, and chairs. One Mafia member is still alive and says that no matter who they are, the Mafia will track them down and kill them along with all their families. After the larger member destroys the man's body with his bullets, the shorter one coyly asks what family is.
