Contarch (コンターチ, Kontāchi)[1][2] was a Greed Island player hired by Battera and one of ten founding members of an alliance formed to clear the game.[3]
Appearance
Contarch has dark, afro-styled hair, a thin mustache, and prominent cheekbones. He wears a light, short-sleeved shirt overtop a dark, long-sleeved undershirt.[3]
Plot
Greed Island arc
Contarch comes in contact with Mikli, Redwood, Pisac, Cuzco, Shihael, plus three other new Greed Island players, and convinces them to join the alliance.[1][3] After Jispa guides the new recruits to the alliance's hideout, Contarch explains the spell-casting mechanics of Greed Island while another alliance member hands out a list of all the spell cards for the newcomers to study. Abengane is the first to voice that he has memorized the full list, prompting Contarch to quiz him on all of the defensive spells and their conversion limits, which Abengane answers correctly. Puhat then declares he is also ready, claiming he could take a harder question than Abengane, but fails to answer Contarch's question regarding the mechanics of the spell card "Compromise". Contarch shouts at Puhat to learn the list over.[3]
Genthru reveals himself as the Bomber to the alliance members
Several months later, Contarch, Nickes, and the other founders gather all of the alliance members to celebrate their progress. During the meeting, Genthru suddenly reveals himself as the Bomber and informs the alliance that he has planted bombs on all the members, demanding they hand over their specified slot cards, causing a massive panic within the alliance base. After Genthru explodes Jispa's face[4] and escapes with a "Leave" card, Contarch shouts that they should not try to pursue him, given that most of the alliance members joined on the basis that they lacked combat abilities. The alliance members continue arguing until Nickes pleads with everyone to comply and hand over the cards to save Jispa's life.[5]
Bara confronts Contarch as well as the other alliance members at the Shisho Tree
Contarch later joins a group of alliance members at the Starting Point while Puhat communicates with Genthru outside the game. Bara enters the game and presents Puhat's severed head to Contarch and the others, revealing himself as an ally of Genthru. He demands they send someone with the specified slot card data next time, as well as give him a "Leave" card. Assam objects due to the card's rarity, but Bara explains that he, Genthru, and Sub must be together to disarm the bombs; otherwise, the alliance members will all die if he cannot leave the game now. Contarch then quickly offers the card, though Bara punches him for not complying sooner.[6]
Once Nickes finishes his meeting with Genthru and hands over the ring containing all of the alliance's specified slot card data, Genthru reenters the game alongside Bara and Sub. After confirming they were given all of the cards, Genthru, Bara, and Sub gather to "release" the planted bombs, though the "release" turns out to be a detonation and Contarch is killed along with nearly all of the alliance members.[6]
Abilities & Powers
Since most of the alliance members joined because they lacked combat abilities, it can be assumed that Contarch also had none.[5]
Nen
Due to being able to access Greed Island, Contarch was capable of utilizing Nen.[7]
