Light and Darkness: Part 3 (
Synopsis
After Gon enters the lecture hall and begins to glare at Illumi, the examiners and other new Hunters wait with bated breath. Although Leorio tries to get his attention, Gon walks right past him and confronts Illumi, sternly ordering him to apologize to Killua. Illumi is unsure what he's apologizing for, and Gon tells him that he isn't qualified to be Killua's brother.
Gon restraining Illumi
As soon as Illumi replies that he didn't know he needed to qualify, Gon forcefully grabs his left forearm and yanks him out of his seat, with Illumi and the others left surprised by Gon's action. Gon then tells him that friends also don't need to qualify, tightening his grip on Illumi's forearm and leaving him even more surprised. He reveals that the apology itself doesn't matter and that he only wants Illumi to take him to Killua. Illumi wonders what he will do after that, and Gon replies that he will bring Killua back. Illumi stresses that his brother wasn't kidnapped and simply left by his own choice, but Gon continues to tighten his grip on Illumi's forearm and accuses him of manipulating Killua by kidnapping his spirit.
Netero interjects and tells Gon that they were just about to examine the point, revealing that both Kurapika and Leorio protested that Killua failed because of outside influence. Kurapika stands up and stresses that he believes Killua was possibly forced to act because of a hypnotic suggestion. He adds that while it's generally impossible to use hypnosis to have someone commit murder, Killua has no problem with killing when moved to do so. Leorio then speaks up to say that since Killua murdered Bodoro during his fight with him, it could be interpreted as trying to help him, asking if he should fail instead of Killua. Kurapika again reiterates that Killua did not act on his own and that failing him would be unreasonable.
Netero countering Kurapika and Leorio's points
However, Netero replies that it's all conjectural and cannot be proven, stating that there were no clear indications of murder and not enough evidence to determine that hypnosis was used. After Kurapika lets out a sigh, Netero addresses Leorio's point and says that the two were evenly matched, with Bodoro having more experience and Leorio the advantage in combat skill. He tells Leorio that he wouldn't have needed Killua's help in the fight, causing him to let out a sigh as well. Pokkle then speaks and brings up the match between Kurapika and Hisoka, wondering why Hisoka would admit defeat after whispering something to Kurapika.
Pokkle guesses that Kurapika would have surrendered if it had been a threat and points out that there could have been an understanding between the two, declaring that Kurapika's win is also suspicious if his protest is based on strange behavior. Pokkle tells him that he could resolve things by revealing what Hisoka whispered, but Kurapika refuses to do so. Pokkle believes that he is obliged to answer, but Kurapika points out that if his passing is suspicious, then Pokkle winning by default against Killua is beyond shameful. Pokkle is enraged and prepares for a confrontation, but an annoyed Hanzo tells him to calm down and says that he just wants to finish the briefing so he can return home.
Gon threatening to never let Illumi see Killua again
Gon says that it's all pointless since all of them have already passed and are either satisfied with how they passed or can do what is necessary to be satisfied. Although he's entirely confident that Killua would pass the exam if he took it again, he recognizes that he has failed the current one. However, as he tightens his grip on Illumi's forearm even more, he promises to never forgive Illumi (calling him Gittarackur) if he is the one who made Killua a killer. Illumi wonders what that will mean to him, and Gon replies that he will take Killua away from him so that he never sees him again. Illumi then holds out his left hand and moves it closer toward Gon, who quickly releases his grip on Illumi's forearm and jumps back.
Netero hopes that the issue is now resolved and agrees with Gon's assessment, stating that the committee's decisions won't be overturned based on the small issues they have. He repeats that Killua has failed the exam while all of them have passed. The small official then resumes the briefing and directs their attention to their new Hunter Licenses, which have anti-forgery systems to prevent them from being duplicated. He explains that the license will allow them to enter 90% of countries and 75% of the areas where access is restricted or even prohibited for the general public. He adds that they can now use 95% of public facilities for free and that banks will treat them the same as a distinguished company. He reveals that the money they would make from selling their license would support seven generations of their family, leaving Pokkle in disbelief as he looks at his own.
The seven examinees officially becoming Hunters
The official then tells them to make sure that their license is never lost or stolen since they cannot get a replacement, revealing that 20% of Hunters lose their license within the first year. He stresses that their first priority as Hunters is to protect their licenses, and moves on to the Hunter Association's bylaws. After some time passes and the official concludes the briefing, he tells them to believe in themselves and keep working toward their dreams, officially certifying the seven examinees as licensed Hunters. After the briefing, Gon confronts Illumi and asks him where Killua went. Illumi advises against following Killua, but Gon declares tha Killua is his friend and vows to get him back. Illumi asks the other two if they feel the same, and Gon is surprised to see both Kurapika and Leorio standing behind him. Confident that they won't be able to reach it, Illumi reveals that Killua simply returned to their house at the top of Kukuroo Mountain.
